I can honestly say that I for one did not see that coming. I mean WOW! I was completely surprised by this book. I did watch the movie before I read the book, I know shame shame, but I am glad that I did. If I read the book before the movie I would have been more upset at the movie for being a lousy adaptation. Now I did enjoy the movie but as I read the book I kept stopping and YELLING out loud “oh that explains a lot” or “why didn’t they add that into the movie?” I mean important details people come on!!
I loved the book from the very first page and I was hooked. It was very hard to rip myself out of that world and back into the real one. I could have finished this book in one sitting if life would of allowed me to but it was Easter weekend and I was exhausted. It took me 5 days to read this book……5 DAYS!!!!! Blasphemy.
I found the writing and characters in the book both intriguing and beautiful. I love the dynamic between Ethan and Lena. They kept me laughing throughout the whole book with their little telepathy conversations they would have (which they don’t evolve in the movie). It is an insta-love but when you have dreams about a person you’ve never met before, you kinda expect that to happen. I was very pleased that it was a very innocent love and not like constantly on top of each other. I loved how they portrayed Amma in the book more than in the movie. She was more involved in the book and showed her true strength. Macon has to be my favorite character though. He is mysterious, charming, funny and extravagant. His story is deeper in the book than in the movie which made his character so much more appealing to me. I just loved him.
I recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it or has watched the movie. If you haven’t seen the movie yet but want to please, PLEASE read the book first. Then you can be mad at the direction the movie takes the story, as much as me!! Seriously though read the book!! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
