In the three kingdoms of Mytica, magic has long been forgotten. And while hard-won peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest now simmers below the surface.

As the rulers of each kingdom grapple for power, the lives of their subjects are brutally transformed… and four key players, royals and rebels alike, find their fates forever intertwined. The only outcome that’s certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

It’s the eve of war…. Choose your side.

Princess: Raised in pampered luxury, Cleo must now embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of magic long thought extinct.

Rebel: Jonas, enraged at injustice, lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country cruelly impoverished. To his shock, he finds himself the leader of a people’s revolution centuries in the making.

Sorceress: Lucia, adopted at birth into the royal family, discovers the truth about her past—and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Heir: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, firstborn son Magnus begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword…(.GR)

My Thoughts

I have been trying to get around to reading this series since it first came out. I was lucky enough back in June to find the first 4 books at a thrift store, in brand new condition. Along with 7 other popular YA fiction hardcovers and I got them all for $2 a piece!!!! tumblr_mcm8caDyB11riiw1do1_500

Right now however I am having such a blast with my new baby boy that I haven’t wanted to pick up the book. Thanks to my Hoopla app I was able to listen to the this book on audio. I love audio books, don’t you? Especially when the narrator is amazing, like in Falling Kingdoms. Fred Berman is the narrator of this series and he is amazing. He has the capability of changing his voice for every character and that includes the women. Very talented man.

I really enjoyed this first book but I was intimidated by it at first. I wasn’t really sure what to expect and I didn’t want to get my hopes up due to all the hype around this series. Boy, was I totally blown away. I loved the magic system in this story. It is Elemental magic meaning magic fueled by air, water, fire and earth. There is a prophecy of a child born with the ability of all 4 and will be known as a Sorcerer not just a witch.

Morgan Rhodes is now one of my favorite authors. Her writing style flows very well and it is filled with a lot of detail. I don’t mind the multiple POVs in this story because its such a huge country that it helps the story to see the situations through others. The characters are all very enjoyable to me, even the bad guys.

The situations that the main characters find themselves in are full of action and suspense. I never was quite sure what was going to happen to them at any given minute. Yes, there are some character deaths that you will not see coming. I have heard from BookTubers not to get attached to any characters because you never know who Morgan Rhodes has on the chopping block and they were right!

If you like YA high fantasy or just want to be whisked away to a land of action, romance, political intrigue, and magic, then check out this series. I am starting book 2, Rebel Spring, right now!

Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows Review

The Prophecy of Shadows (Elementals, #1)

*Received this e-book for an honest review*

Witches are real. They’re descendants of the Greek gods.

Nicole Cassidy is a witch descended from the Greek gods… but she doesn’t know it until she moves to a new town and discovers a dangerous world of magic and monsters that she never knew existed.

When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole and four others — including mysterious bad-boy Blake — are gifted with elemental powers. But the comet has another effect — it opens the portal to another dimension that has imprisoned the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes, it’s up to Nicole and the others to follow a cryptic prophecy in time to save the town… and possibly the world. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

I was asked to read and review this book by the author, Michelle Madow. What was funny is that I knew her name but couldn’t place where I knew it from. Then I scoured my bookshelf and realized I had a signed ARC of her book, The Secret Diamond Sisters.

The Secret Diamond Sisters (The Secret Diamond Sisters, #1)

So I was very happy to read her newer books and I was not disappointed with it at all.

This book was very fast paced and I could not stop reading it. I read it in less than a week and that’s good for me because I’ve been in such a slump these past 6 months. This was the perfect book to pull me out of it. I haven’t read any books on witches or witchcraft but when I read the synopsis and it said it has a Greek mythology twist to it I had to read it.

I loved the writing style of this novel because it was so easy to read and follow. Everything that happens in the book is so thought out and it flowed very well. I also loved all of the main characters in the story. I’m usually rolling my eyes at teenage angst in books but the way that Nicole and Blake’s friendship blossoms was not to rushed. There is a mystery to why they are drawn to each other. The 5 elements that each person represents are: Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit. Of course my nerdy brain went to the movie The Fifth Element but I had to pull myself back.

The way that each person in the group of 5 have to use their special power in order to find the next clue in the prophecy is great. I do really like the magic system in the story too, different colors mean different things. As the book moves along the characters not only grow in their own power but end up needing each other to get the job done. Nicole finds out that she may be more than just your regular witch, she is something completely unique.

If this book sounds interesting to you go to Michelle’s website and you can download this first book in the series for FREE!!!!

Book 2 !!!!

The Blood of the Hydra (Elementals, #2)

Red Queen Review

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. There, before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess, and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays the only certainty is betrayal.

This sweeping story of palace intrigue, class hierarchy, and deception will keep readers hurtling along, desperate to find out Mare’s fate. Her honesty and determination, quick wit, and no-holds-barred attitude will surely make readers fall in love with her.

My Thoughts

When I first heard about this book, through Booktube, I thought it sounded very interesting. I never did buy it though due to the fact that the hype was so high, that it intimidated me. A couple of months ago I won a giveaway over on IG for the Red Queen, Glass Sword and also Cruel Crown ( novella) and I decided it was about time I gave it a chance.

WELL nature had other plans and it was around that time I got pregnant and all reading was out the window. In July I decided to give reading a try and epically failed at it. So I went to Hoopla app and borrowed the audiobook. I was so relieved that I was actually able to finish a book finally!!!

This book was such a blast to listen to. Its filled with action, adventure, mystery and even some romance ( not a whole lot which I liked). Mare is such a confident and brave girl throughout everything she is put up against. I loved the ability that the author gave her and cheered for her throughout the book. Actually all of the Silver’s abilities were pretty cool but if I had to choose it would be like Mare’s. I also loved the fact that the prince’s roles are not stereotypical. They are two of the characters who developed a little differently than I thought would happen.

For me there were no real surprises in the book. It felt like it had your typical dystopian “one girl against the world” trope. Which don’t get me wrong I just devour. So if you are looking for a book after your Hunger Games or Divergent hangovers then this is a series for you. I am gearing up to read the second book, Glass Sword, probably next month.

Thanks for stopping by!!!

The Scorch Trials Review

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end.
Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn’t done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch.
There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die.
The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off.
There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive. (Amazon )

I have been meaning to read the second book in this series but never had a chance to. So as I was sitting starting a new craft I thought. …man I really need to be listening to an audiobook while I do this. Boom…The Scorch Trials.

This book was amazing and I can honestly say I liked it a lot more than the first. It had so many twists and turns that kept me guessing. The setting was so scary and dangerous that it kept me on the edge of my chair as I listened. The new threat isn’t grievers….it’s the Cranks. I remember thinking of the movie The Crazies while listening to this book. If you have seen that movie you’ll understand what I mean.

Listening to the audiobook brought the story to life for me. ..more than it would of just reading it. Some audiobooks are better but doesn’t mean I’m not going to buy this book.

The character development is also great in this book. The main gladers are having to grow up and make very difficult choices.  Can I just say that the only thing I find weird is that the only “love connections ” are with Thomas. Does anyone else find that weird? I mean I would choose Newt personally.

I’m trying not to put spoilers in this post. It’s very good guys and I highly recommend this series. I’m almost half way through book three on audio now.

You’ve Got Mail!

I have been waiting for several books to come in the mail and today I received one today!!

Hollow Planet

After the death of his beloved father, Daniel’s life has never exactly become that of a typical teenager. He essentially home schooled himself and maintains a full time job at the local store. Additionally, he is forced to raise his younger sister since his mother made her social life a crutch to dealing with the loss of her husband. Daniel would love nothing more than to have a normal teen-age life — and to have his dad back. However, Daniel’s despondent life would now become quite peculiar the day he meets a link to his father: a man by the name of Sef.

Sef explains to Daniel the truth behind this world. He warns that Earth is in a downward spiral with an unfavorable ending. Daniel learns he can help save the planet from an impending danger, but only if he picks up where his father left off. Although what he is told all sounds crazy, Daniel realizes this strange encounter is the first time he has felt a rush, felt alive, felt anything at all. It’s a feeling he doesn’t want to let go of.

This moment would be the catalyst to Daniel’s life-altering adventure. A journey that will show him a whole other world that society has been ignorant of for years, inherent powers that were always present but never realized, a secret endeavor kept hidden from him by his own father, and an opportunity to save Earth from its imminent downfall. Still, none of this will come to Daniel without some heavy opposition from a small group looking to stop Sef and make Earth’s demise a reality. ( Goodreads)

Thank you so much Andrew for the book!

I can’t wait to read it!!

The Faerie Guardian Review

The Faerie Guardian (Creepy Hollow, #1)

The Faerie Guardian is the first book in the Creepy Hollow Series. I found out about this series from my friend on IG. So I found Rachel Morgan’s IG account and asked her if I could have these books for review. She is so nice and sent me the first 3 for my kindle. I did not actually end up “reading” these books because I needed to start crocheting and knitting again, SO I listened to them on my Hoopla App on my phone.

OMG! You guys. I haven’t read many books on the Fae but this will be at the top of my list until I die. Rachel has this amazing talent for describing details. Be it in the surrounding area, items, or even the characters in the book. I felt like I walked through every single Faerie Path with the characters.

I love how all of the characters have their own style. Like the main character Violet Fairdale, her hair has purple streaks in it but don’t buy her anything purple because it actually is just a coincidence that her name is the same color. We follow her story as she goes through these assignments to become a Guardian. These are the elite guards in their community and keep the Fae world safe.

I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t give anymore details on this book. Just know that I can sort of predict things that will happen in books or movies but this book took me for a ride. Its fast paced and action packed. The ACTION sequences are amazing btw!!

If you are looking for something a little different but in the supernatural realm, go and check out Rachel Morgan’s world. It is so beautiful and now I want to become a Faerie Guardian!!

Sacrificed- The Last Oracle Review

Sacrificed – The Last Oracle

Emily Wibberley

Born to serve the merciless Oracle, Clio wants nothing more than to break free. But when her entire family is murdered by Mannix, the king’s adviser, Clio inherits the Oracle’s power, a power she never wanted and doesn’t understand.

Hunted by Mannix, Clio is forced to flee her home in Sheehan and seek refuge in a foreign city where oracles are forbidden. If she’s found out, she will be sacrificed atop its great pyramid.

Clio has no choice but to win the trust of Riece, an enemy warrior. Despite the undeniable attraction between them, Clio knows that if he finds out who she really is, he won’t hesitate to execute her.

Clio tries to hide her budding powers, but the Visions she keeps having of Mannix and his barbarian army slaughtering her people torture her conscience. She alone has the strength and foresight to stop him, but only if she can embrace her destiny and sacrifice everything.

My Thoughts

I contacted Emily Wibberley through Instagram and I just had to have a copy of this book. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and the tagline struck me.

Knowing the future can save her city – but not her heart.”

I mean I had to find out what this was all about. So Emily was so sweet and sent me a copy of her first book. I am so grateful for it too.

This book is a whirlwind of action, mystery, and romance. There are a lot of things that I loved about this but I am not going to give you any spoilers.

Clio is our main character and she is 15 years old. She is next in line to become a Vessel for the Oracle, when she turns 16. Clio has seen what that means in her older sisters and she doesn’t want to become what they are. So she decides to run away. On that fateful night her family, but her sister Ali, is murdered by the King’s adviser and the Oracles powers get transferred to Clio. She learns that Ali was taken to the Emperor. So she sets out to save her sister.

Clio disguises herself as a slave so she can sneak into the city. She is imprisoned and meets Riece, the Commander of the Emperor’s army. There is a definite connection between them but she can’t tell him what she really is. They will execute her on the spot for being an Oracle. The slave girls that are taken to the pyramid are all to be sacrificed and Clio does her best to stop them.

She has to accept who she is and take her place in this world!

There are so many twists and turns in this book. At certain parts it did make me gasp and smile like a complete idiot. My cheeks were hurting so bad from smiling so big.

The character development in this book was great. I loved watching how Clio went from this scared little girl to a powerful woman. She is by far on my list of favorite heroines. Her relationship with Riece was heartwarming but also heartbreaking. Why Emily…..why?

In all seriousness, this book has taken me out of my little reading slump that I have been in. It was so refreshing and I loved every part of it. I can not wait to read the second book!

Forsworn- Book 2
