Scarlet Book Review

Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)

Published February 5th 2013 by Feiwel and Friends

I listened to this on Audiobook!

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

My Thoughts

I absolutely loved this book and I was very nervous going into it. There has been a lot of people on Booktube and friends of mine that said it wasn’t their favorite. I can honestly say that I thought it was just as good as Cinder if not a little better. It continues the story of Cinder, which I love, and also we get introduced to two new characters, Scarlet and Wolf. I am so in love with the relationship between these two and how their story progresses. It is a retelling of Red Riding Hood but with a totally new twist. I thought I knew how it was going to go but I was pleasantly surprised in the way Mrs. Meyers took Scarlet’s story. The other thing I liked about this book is that it was sent in France and not New Beijing. So in the audiobook the narrator was brilliant in putting in the accents for all of the people in the story.

All in all I adored this book and this series so far. I can not wait to keep going because I only hear great things about the other books.
