**Contains spoilers for those who haven’t read either The 5th Wave or The Infinite Sea. If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for????**
How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.
Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.
Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate. (GR)
First of all I loved The 5th Wave and I instantly fell in love with all of the characters, except for Vosch but you aren’t supposed to like the bad guy. I can not wait for the movie! Now The Infinite Sea was a lot shorter of a book than its predecessor but that didn’t take away from all of the action that was packed into it. I mean the “prologue” Wheat, had me almost in tears. They used encapsulated IEDs that detect when there is CO2 around and blows. They stuck it in a toddler. So SAD PEOPLE!!!
Just like the first book The Infinite Sea is broken up into different points of views. We start out about a week or so after everyone escapes the camp. I was still hoping that Evan was still alive after that bomb went off at the camp. *fingers crossed* The rest of the group go to the hotel in which Cassie said was her’s and Evan’s rendezvous point. The winter is settling in and Ringer leaves to check out a cave system they can hide out in. Without anyone seeing her though, Teacup sneaks out after her. Ringer thinks shes being watched by a Silencer and so she shoots. It happens to be Teacup, GASP, and the helicopters close in and Ringer agrees to go with the enemy if they help save Teacup.
We find out that Evan is alive but is very hurt. We are now having his back story and when he was awoken is his body. He meets this girl Grace and she is just like him but hates humans. Now in the present she finds him again and tries to seduce him, which made me very uncomfortable and almost screaming at the book, but Evan is able to fight her off and escape. He thought that he killed her but she isn’t dead and in so follows him to the hotel.
After Evan carefully knocks out most of the group he finds Cassie!! We find out that he is more hurt than expected and so is Ben. After a lot of arguing and bantering they hear a helicopter, but after a few minutes it fades off into the distance. What they did find was Megan, Sammy’s friend from the bus! WHAT!! and all she says is her throat hurts!! I was like “oh no, you need to kill her.” She is a walking bomb. Cassie and Evan go back and forth when she is trying to take the capsule out of her throat and then put it in a baggie. Crisis averted right??? Wrong. In comes Grace and raises all kinds of hell. We then have Poundcake who ends up saving the day with the whole Grace thing but not before he is shot a whole bunch of times first. We also get his back story which I believe is the saddest out of all so far. He gets shot like I said when they escape but he goes back to finish everything and all he has to do is breathe. *tears flowing at this moment*
When the story goes back to Ringer thats where my confusion starts. They inject her with stuff that is supposed to make her into like a super human or maybe its alien tech. I am not sure but she refuses to eat for like weeks and she meets this boy named Razor. Now Razor I liked from the get go, he helps her escape only to trick her again. Then helps her again. Not to sure which side he is on but in the end we find out that he is one of the good ones. There is a showdown between Vosch and Ringer that is epic.It left me wondering if there ever were aliens to begin with. Its a huge mind bender and Ringer is so incredibly thoughtful and deep. She is the victor but is in a horrible helicopter crash that I am not to sure she survived. I love her character though like I said.
In the end, most of the crew is still alive, Ben, Cassie, Sammy, Dumbo……but where is Evan. Here he comes all battered and bruised from head to toe into their camp.
I did leave some very important elements out. So when you read the book its not totally spoiled for you. I can’t say that I liked this book more than the first but I do like them equally. I hope you liked this review please leave me a comment or like if you did or if you didn’t that is fine too!!!!
Happy Reading !!!
