The 5th Wave ~ Review

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Synopsis

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up. (GR)

My Thoughts ~may contain spoilers~

Holy Cow!! That was an amazing book. It has almost everything I want in a book, danger, humor, aliens, and some romance dashed in there. There were so many times that I caught myself holding my breath and even a part that made my eyes get a little misty.

I loved how it is broken up into different parts and in each part is from a different person’s view point. I think the thing I love most is the fact that Mr.Yancey made the whole thing feel like it could really happen. My mind swam with thoughts of what I would of done if it was really happened.

The story follows a girl named Cassie and her family trying to find their way in the world after an alien invasion. When the army comes to their camp and promises to help them is when the action really begins. The army takes all of the young children including Sammy, who is Cassie’s little brother, and promises they will be back to get everyone else. When that doesn’t happen, Cassie sets off to get her little brother back. Along the way she gets hurt and is rescued by a boy named Evan. Is he friend or foe? Cassie isn’t sure but he helps her get stronger. Will she ever make it back to her brother?

This is the best alien invasion novel I have read in a long time. I can not wait to start the sequel, The Infinite Sea, to see what happens with these characters that I have grown to love.
